What's Da Tea Recap: Show #1

So last night I told myself that I would be in bed by 1 AM sharp. However, I found myself mesmerized by the witty banter of Father Khalif Jalil Prada (aka Shady P), Susan Mizrahi, and Mother Roxi Moulin on the newest addition to Blogtalk Radio, "What's Da Tea". Shady P's newest venture gives women involved in the ballroom scene a forum to discuss various topics including upcoming events and ballroom 101.

On last night's show, Shady P was joined on-air by the fabulous Mother Roxi Moulin and the legendary Susan Mizrahi. What followed for the next 2 hours was not only funny as all hell but interesting, intriguing, and informative. The three commentators (who are definitely considered to be among the Who's Who of not only the female ballroom scene but mainstream scene as well) spilled the tea on their thoughts about internet houses, balls that they were personally anticipating, and gave their definitions of several ball categories.

The House of Iman's highly anticipated Gag Factor Ball dominated the conversation as well as Prada Weekend (which is sure to be the event of the summer) and Susan Mizrahi's Girlfight! The switchboard remained packed with callers from all over. The lovely Ms. Jessica Rabbitt called in to promote Sweet Heat's kick-off party (which she happens to be hosting) and even spilled a little tea on our beloved DL. Apparently, Ms. Rabbitt hasn't been given her reward money for winning Downelink's Sexiest Hair Contest. [Hmmm, ya'lll know that ain't right...] King Jaedon Prada called in to show love to the host and broke hearts all over America when she announced that she's not only moving to Atlanta in a few days but is also officially off the market! [Ok, I'll wait while a few of you go grab a tissue box. Even I had to shed a tear over that one and I have a girl!] I even dialed up the terrific threesome and commented a few times.

The highlight of the show for me is clear: I loooooved listening to their descriptions of ball categories and their thoughts on the current status of the female ballroom scene. They reinforced that training and dedication is needed to make it to the top of the ballroom scene and understanding the history of the ballroom scene is imperative! When I say that special guest Susan Mizrahi is incredibly funny, down to earth and real as hell... it was such a pleasure to listen to her because it shows that this is not just a trend, this is a LIFESTYLE! The respect that these women have for the ballroom scene is something that I rarely see in the community. They understand the history and the heart of the ballroom scene and it shows through their respect and knowledge.

Though the date and time haven't been announced, information on upcoming shows can be found on Shady P's DL page Shady P. You can also go to Blogtalk Radio to listen to the shows.

New Music: Fiona Simone-Tomboy Fresh (Remix)

I first encountered the music of Fiona Simone a few months through the awesome site
6ColourClique, one of the first sites that connected LGBT women of color from all over [Gotta give a shout-out to the lovely Mo Brown...Love ya girl!]. After taking a second, third, and FOURTH listen to her mixtape "Ladies Room 2.5", there's only word to describe how I feel: HOOKED!

Now, the ATL MC is dropping a new single from her upcoming album "Detour" and I have a feeling that its gonna be a hot one.

In a world where sex sells, she's using her lyrics to get her to the top and I dig that. I'm telling you ladies, there's a revolution going on and it just might be televised WORLDWIDE! Female artists are stepping their game UP and I LOVE IT!

Don't take my word for it. Listen.

TOMBOY FRESH REMIX ft Row Tanks - Fiona Simone

There's No Doubt In My Mind...

That DJ Mary Mac is one of the hottest women ever and what she can do to a turntable can make any woman wonder what else she can do with those hands [Lord, my GF is gonna kill me for that one...LOL]

But honestly its not all about looks, the substance is there also. One of the hottest female DJs in the game, DJ Mary Mac's skills cannot be disputed and despite an increase in the number of female DJs, she continues to reign supreme.

For music and more, you can find her on Myspace [Myspace.com/DJMARYMACNYC and Twitter [http://twitter.com/DJMARYMAC].

Also, as the resident DJ @ NYC's Lovergirl, you can party with DJ Mary Mac each and every Saturday.

People, please do not sleep on the multitude of talented women in our community. They need our support!

Say Word?!: A Daily Dose of Realness...

Ok, so today I have something on my mind and its not an issue restricted solely to the LGBT community but to Black women as a whole.

So WTF is up with grown women still dressing as if they're 16 years old? If you are over the age of 25, you need to dress in big girls clothes sweetie. I truly don't get it. Everyday I log onto DL, MySpace and Facebook and see various profiles of older women who look scandalous and unladylike. What ever happened to dressing like a lady and looking classy? If you are 35 years old, you should not be dressing like Hannah Montana! Even Miley Cyrus is getting too old for that!

Ladies, this is acceptable...

Not this...

Get it together.

Event FYI: Fatso University

Though not an event that's strictly for a ladies, "Fatso University" is an event that reaches out to the people who really hold my heart: the REAL Hip-Hip community.

An online buddy of mine, the fantastic Ms. Jonquille Rice, has stated that she'll be in the place "giving you a piece of [her]" so make sure you hit up this event and support her. Also you can check out her blog @ http://jonquillerice.blogspot.com

Event FYI: More Events for DC Black Pride 2009

In addition to its other DC Black Pride Events, Onyx Entertainment presents Thiqueness Part 2. The party is hosted by Frankie [Star of "The Way It Is" and mother to singer Keyshia Cole] and Deelishis ["Flavor of Love 2"]. Though I'm not too excited to see either one of the hosts, I'm sure its gonna be a great event. Be there.

Also, my girl Kee over at K.P Jr Productions is presenting the "Pink Polish" party at Club Mirrors on May 22nd. Though its going head to head with Onyx Entertainment's "Eye Candy" [which is at Club 24], it gives ladies an alternative place to party.

Event FYI: Prada Weekend 2009

Look, I'm just gonna say this...

If you are not planning to be at this event, you are ridiculously fucking stupid.

Prada Weekend will the hottest event of the summer and if you're not there, please believe that you will be missing out.

The highlight of the weekend is the highly anticipated "Sins Vs. Morals" Ball. The House of Prada's Worldwide Father Khalif Prada is alluding that this ball will be one of the largest female balls ever. With categories inspired by the 7 Deadly Sins and 7 Heavenly Morals, its sure to be one of the most creative balls as well. The ball has also attracted a multitude of sponsors including the legendary Jaimee Balenciaga, The Urban L Magazine, Traxx Girls, Onyx Entertainment, PrideAfterHours and Dreamgirls Entertainment. Each is sponsoring the cash prize of a selected category from the ball [For a list of the sponsors and their categories, see Prada Weekend on Downelink.

Also, in addition to the Sins V. Morals Ball, Prada Weekend also boasts two other events: a kick-off party on Thursday and the Mr. and Mrs. NYC mini pageant/party.

Sing DUKE!

I have to give a shout-out to my homie, my brother and one of my closest friends...The Artist Currently known as DUKE!

There are not alot of men who can say that I love them, but I truly love this man. We've been friends since freshman year and recently we've been going through the same exact struggles and he's had my back.

Plus, the boy can sing. And I don't mean just singing the background of the church choir [You know how some people get put aaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way in BACK!, LOL]. No, I mean he can SANG!

I've seen him evolve as artist. Truly get serious about his craft. I've seen this man write his own lyrics. He is an ARTIST! Ever heard of 'art for arts sake?' Well that's what we're about over here. He sings because he loves music just as I write because I love words.

Bottomline ladies, my homeboy can siiiiiiiing....

Listen and give some feedback.

A Million Girls - Mark Jackson & Duke

And also, you can't forget about the rest of the future rock stars...Blake Kelly, Hollywood Lue and of course, DJ Tay James [I can't even believe I just said that...]
Yes, I'm all about the ladies but these are my boys and I gotta show love. I gotta support my friends [Isn't that what the straight-gay alliance is all about?]

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnywayz, listen to the music and check these guys out. I hate to say it, but they're kind of a big ASS deal.

Booty Call.. - Blake Kelly
